Last 9 seats available for upcoming workshop in Bogotá, Colombia, hosted by @uniandes ‘s Japan Center. Go to my website on IG bio and click news to learn more and sign up link. Or, if you are seeing this in the next 24 hours, I posted the direct link on my IG Story. Hope to see you there! (PS: I get asked about future workshop schedules. This will be the last one of the three this year. So far no future workshops are scheduled. If your design-art organization/college is interested in organizing one, please get in touch. Thank you.) Being a freelance artist is also being a small business. I try my best to work with and support my fellow local small businesses. Love my neighborhood frame store. They are always nice to me, and went above and beyond to make these small drawings look as precious as possible. These are going to be presents for special people in my life. Life imitates art. Art imitates life. What we put into our artworks are not random, though they may be completely subconscious. I had no idea this photo existed. I asked my mother to send me some childhood photos, and this was in the mix. Maybe I was 3? In our backyard pond. (Not a pool. We usually had some goldfish in there, but that turned into a mini pool for kids once in a while on very hot days.) (at Yokohama Japan)

I am on a new project, and I was just looking into my archives for fish/mermaid related images. I found this piece I did for a packaging project a few years back. (Previously never shown.) I know, I’m the one who tell students to never to draw mermaids and angels in expected ways. But mermaid was the theme of this skincare product. It’s a soothing summery image…, so I’m sharing this a week before September starts. Why not? 🧜‍♀️🧜‍♀️🧜‍♀️🧜‍♀️🧜‍♀️ (I didn’t know there was a mermaid emoji!)

Heavenly Bodies exhibit at @metmuseum The Cloisters is worth a trip to Upper Manhattan. Catholic inspired fashion (including what Pope actually wore) is pretty great, but what’s really worth the hike is to see how the contemporary high fashion is placed and presented dramatically and seamlessly in this old European structure and with its medieval artifacts. Wear comfortable shoes, the museum is up on a high hill of the beautiful Fort Tryon Park. Make sure to walk around the park to experience its beauty as well. End your visit with lunch at the garden of New Leaf Restaurant which is conveniently located inside the park. 💯 (at The Met Cloisters)

A friend’s mom just moved from Japan to New York to enroll herself full time at Columbia University. Yes, you’ve heard it right; my friend’s mom.
Newly divorced at age of early 60s, she said  “I want to do things while I can.”
I don’t know much detail, but I am sure the divorce was not easy, especially she comes from still very conservative Japan, and on top of that from a religious family.
I love getting surrounded by my friends and people like her, who can confront life with positivity.
Do you feel old? Let me be honest, I do. I am sure many of you do too. Because, whether we are 16 or 60, we are all the oldest today than any other day in our life so far.
Every time I feel too old to do something, I tell myself, ‘but I am also the youngest today than any other day I will be experiencing in the future.

Summer is ending, schools are starting. Are you nervous? I am. I hope I’ll meet wonderful new students soon. And good luck to those who are expecting a fresh new life this school year.

What!? Already Wednesday evening??? This is how I’ve been feeling this week, physically and metaphorically. The week started with bad migraines, then a bit of crunch time at work… two more days till the weekend! Hang in there, everyone.
